 This trip begins with a Welcome Dinner in Tokyo, where you’ll meet your garden buddies and get your excitement flowing. In the capital, you’ll explore stroll gardens tied to Mitsubishi’s founder and visit a museum with a shinzan-yūkoku-style garden. Haven’t heard of this style? Don’t worry—Chris, your garden leader, will introduce it to you. In Tokyo, you’ll also have free time to wander the streets and visit Japan's oldest department store.A ride on the bullet train takes you to Kanazawa, where you’ll visit Kenrokuen Garden, home to the oldest fountain in Japan, operating on natural water pressure. You’ll also explore the D.T. Suzuki Museum, where gardens mirror the themes of its architecture, and the Nomura House, a samurai residence featuring stepping stones, lanterns and a 400-year-old bayberry tree.Other highlights include a visit to Korakuen Garden, along with the historic “Crow Castle”, which offers panoramic views of the area. In Kyoto, you’ll explore the meditative gardens of Kōtō-in Temple and the Tenryu-ji Temple, renowned for its 'borrowed scenery' garden design. You’ll also walk through the Sagano Bamboo Forest, filled with towering giant bamboo. The journey continues with a visit to Ōkōchi Sansō, the former villa of a famous film actor, known for its  views of Kyoto, Mt. Hiei, and the Hozu River gorge. The trip ends with the world-famous dry landscape garden of Ryōan-ji Temple, the moss gardens and 'Sea of Silver Sand' at Ginkaku-ji Temple.Cultural experiences include a Japanese tea ceremony, a stop at Eriko Horiki’s Washi Gallery to explore traditional Japanese paper-making, and a visit to Zohiko Lacquer Shop, renowned for its 300-year history in Urushi lacquerware. This trip to Japan offers a blend of cultural depth, diverse garden styles, and moments for personal exploration, making it a truly special experience.
